To mark the birth of their daughter Max, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan are giving away a whopping 99% of their shares in the company – amounting to $45 bn at Facebook’s current value.

The money will all go to causes the couple supports, through their Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, as they want the world to be a better place for their newborn to grow up in.

The shares will be donated over the course of the couple’s lives, and the announcement is the latest on a list of tycoons and top business heads globally putting their money to better use.

The Wipro chief is said to have donated a whopping Rs 12,316 cr in the year of 2014. Education is his biggest area of contribution.

Social and rural development are among the biggest areas of concern for the Vedanta Resources honcho, whose contributions amount to Rs 1,796 cr.

Shiv Nadar

The founder-chairman of HCL insists on education for all, and in 2014, he is believed to have donated Rs 1,136 cr.

The retired Tata chief also believesin the power of education, and his donation of Rs 620 cr in 2014 is a significant one.
