Earlier today Sania Mirza and her husband, Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik, shared images on their social media accounts announcing Mirza’s pregnancy. 

Mirza had indicated earlier in interviews that their child would carry the surname ‘Mirza Malik.’ Despite her marriage, Mirza has retained her last name, and wants her child to do so as well. She has also stated that she and her husband both want a girl child, in opposition to the opinions of many of her own family members. 

No further news is currently known as to how far along in her pregnancy Mirza is. She is currently ranked 24th on the Doubles tour, and last played a professional tournament in September last year.
