I have always believed in simplicity. And that is what I would advise – keep it simple, comfortable, have a few essentials, and you will be fine.

For a formal or a red carpet evening, always have  one or two good suits handy. A tuxedo always looks good especially if it’s a red carpet event. Every stylish man must own few suits that can work for all events and occasions, even if his work doesn’t require them.

Well-fitted jeans and T-shirts are must-haves. Well-fitted is the operative word here. Understand the need for a good fit – it may not be the most glamorous part of fashion, but it is the most essential.

Keep in mind your entire look. Does everything that you are wearing work? Do the colours work for you? Is everything in sync – your shoes, your watch and your look?

Style is ultimately all about self-confidence. There will be people who will say, ‘He looks good today’ or ‘He looks like a mess’. You just need to deal with it and dig deep down to know what you have done wrong or right, and stick to it.

Everything looks good on a hanger. But does it look good on you? Figuring that out is as important for a man as it is for a woman. So don’t just pick things from a shelf – try them on. It is a very basic rule but one that men rarely follow.

If you can carry it off, trainers or sneakers with a suit is the hottest look in the West. But you need to match that with an attitude that spells laidback.

Unless you want to look like you are flaunting your wealth, stick to two pieces of jewellery – a watch and a simple ring (if you are married).

Leather jackets are fine, but leather trousers? Throw them out of your wardrobe, especially if you are above 30.

If you don’t give a damn about how you look, you will never look good, no matter how much money you spend on your wardrobe. Take care to dress well.
