The chef and restaurateur on how to make a style statement

Simple, elegant and natural: I would say that’s the best style rule to follow.

I make safe colour choices. That’s important because you don’t know what experimenting with colour will do to your wardrobe.

Style is about attitude. I like to see myself as an individual with a positive attitude, which reflects in my image. Style is also about how you wear clothes. I have seen very stylish people wear nothing fancier than a pair of jeans, a white shirt and Kolhapuris.

As far as fits go, anything not too tight and neither too loose is your perfect fit.

If I have to dress formal I would pick an Armani or a Hugo Boss tuxedo. I also like black suits.

A bulky wallet doesn’t make you look rich. Only carry the necessities: your ID, a credit card, and a few small bills.

Dress shoes are a style staple for formal occasions. And never wear square-toed shoes.

Denims should distress on their own for them to look natural. Or they look like too much effort has been put into giving them that distress feel.

Pleats on a trouser are not flattering. Keep to flat-front pants.

I think it is important to look good every day, to keep it classic, than to look different every day.

To look fitter, I dress in one colour. For instance, your jacket and trousers can be in the same colour. Keep the shirt basic – a white or a black.

My favourite star is Shah Rukh Khan. He dresses beautifully and knows what looks good on him.  I have often dreamt of being cast as Raj in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, a movie he excelled in.

Look at some of the best dressed men in the world. They will never wear a T-shirt that says something. They keep it basic and simple. It is either white, black, or grey. Men look good in simple, form-fitting T-shirts.
