Maruti Suzuki launched their first sub-compact SUV, dubbed the Vitara Brezza. The country’s largest carmaker designed, conceptualised and developed the product entirely in India – a first for Maruti Suzuki. This has allowed the company to launch the car for an incredibly appealing starting price of Rs 6.99 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The Brezza will be available only in three trims (Ldi, Vdi and Zdi) with the top-end variant priced at Rs 9.68 lakh.

The car will be positioned right below the S-Cross and will therefore not be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s more exclusive ‘Nexa’ showrooms. It’s powered by a 1.3 DDis 200 engine which gives out 89bhp of power with over 20 kgm of torque. Although not as powerful as its rivals such as the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra TUV300, the Vitara Brezza claims to provide higher fuel efficiency with a claimed mileage of 24.3 kpl. Although there isn’t a petrol motor available for the Brezza at the moment, Maruti Suzuki aren’t ruling out its inclusion at a later stage.
