It’s no secret that we hate Pahlaj Nihalani from the core of our heart.
It’s no secret that we hate Pahlaj Nihalani from the core of our heart. Any film that tries to depict truth or tries to bring a change in the mindset of the people, has to bear the brunt of Nihalani’s whims. There are strong rumours that he will resign from his post, and Nihalani himself had admitted that he will give up his post if he is found guilty of favouring the big producers.
“Let anyone prove that I have favoured any filmmaker and I will resign immediately. This charge of corrupt practises is being levelled a little too late against the CBFC when it is absolutely corruption-free. We do not break the queue for anyone. These charges of favouritism are levelled by filmmakers of small budgeted films, who do not have the resources to market their film.So they use the CBFC’s name,” Nihalani was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Whether or not Nihalani leaves the door open for others, only time will tell. But, until then, let’s indulge in wishful thinking by figuring out some replacements for him.
He will allow smoking, drinking, drugs, sex and rock and roll to be a part of our films. In fact, having him at the helm will make filmmakers even more fearless, and we might get to see better and more hard-hitting stories.
Prakash Jha ran into a lot of trouble recently when Lipstick Under My Burkha’s release was stalled by CBFC. We think he’ll make an able CBFC chief, and not suppress truth. His hardhitting films like Gangaajal and Apaharan proves that he is concerned about shaping the society.
Naseeruddin Shah is a great actor and he shouldn’t stop doing that, but a few years as CBFC chief will do no harm. He is one of the biggest intellectuals we have in the industry today, and he is sure to rock it as the CBFC chief.
With Mahesh Bhatt at the helm, we might see nude scenes becoming normal in Indian cinema. And it’s high time we stopped being apologetic about it, considering top actors and actresses from other countries have been open to it since many years.
Nandita Das is one of the most talented actresses in the industry, and her legacy of great films is truly impressive. There is only one problem with her being the CBFC chief – she might not want to watch some of the extremely poor films that are made.
