Audi launches an updated RS7

Want an RS7 with a bit more flash? You’re in luck

The Audi A7 is the German manufacturer’s equivalent of a family station wagon, and a very good looking car it is too. The RS7 is the same car, but one that’s been thoroughly beaten with an angry stick – it’s a family car to terrify the family with, if you will. How so, you ask? Any car that can hit a top speed of 305 kph isn’t exactly PG rated, and the RS7 also has a great big blunderbuss of a soundtrack, one that puts many performance cars in the shade.

The basic numbers have not changed – under its hood, you will find a 4-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, with the small matter of 560 hp and 70 kgm of torque. The 0-100 kph blast is dispensed with in 3.9 seconds, and its top speed is usually limited to 250 kph – however, you can option performance packages that raise the top speeds to 280 and 305 kph respectively. Through all this wanton violence, Audi claims the RS7 will deliver close to 10 kilometres per litre of fuel, but we suspect that figure will plummet in real-world driving conditions.

The changes in the car are otherwise cosmetic, with the addition of Matrix LED headlamps, LED tail lamps and dynamic turn indicators at both ends, plus a bunch of other embellishments in the cabin. The RS7 will leave a Rs 1.4 crore-sized hole in your wallet, ex-showroom Mumbai and Delhi, but you’ll be able to do the grocery run a darn sight faster than anyone else in the neighbourhood (anyone who doesn’t own a Ferrari, Lamborghini or similar rocket, at any rate).
