Kenzo Takada, the founder of popular fashion brand Kenzo has died aged 81, from complications linked to coronavirus.

 

Known for his bright graphics, jungle inspired prints and use of colour, he was the first Japanese designer to gain prominence in the Paris fashion scene. He later settled in France, back in the 1960s and spent the rest of his career there. With his “nearly 8,000 designs”, the Japanese designer “never stopped celebrating fashion and the art of living”, a spokesman said to CNN. His death happened during the ongoing Paris Fashion Week, where a combination of physical and digital shows were happening.

 

“It is with immense sadness that the brand K-3 announces the loss of its celebrated artistic director, Kenzo Takada. The world-renowned designer passed away on October 4th, 2020 due to Covid-19 related complications at the age of 81 at the American Hospital, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France,” the statement read.
