After announcing that employees can work from home for the rest of the year, Google is now granting $1000 USD allowance to its staff.
The news was announced on Google’s blog post, where the CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the employees working from home will be provided with $1,000 USD or an equivalent amount in another currency for those working outside of the U.S. The allowance will cover expenses paid by employees while purchasing office furniture and equipment such as computers in order to make suitable working conditions.
The company is planning on returning to office spaces gradually and eventually in future. “Our campuses are designed to enable collaboration and community—in fact, some of our greatest innovations were the result of chance encounters in the office—and it’s clear this is something many of us don’t want to lose,” added Pichai.
The CEO also talked about the work culture of the company and emphasized the value of Google offices: “Moving ahead, we are looking to develop more overall flexibility in how we work. Our campuses are designed to enable collaboration and community—in fact, some of our greatest innovations were the result of chance encounters in the office—and it’s clear this is something many of us don’t want to lose,” he says. “At the same time, we are very familiar with distributed work as we have many offices around the world and open-minded about the lessons we’ll learn through this period,” he adds.
