Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently held a webcast, addressing the people of his state. During the stream, the CM touched upon various topics like the current coronavirus status in the state, and the festival of lights.
According to the stream, the CM plans to maintain strict safety measures, and be extra careful during the festival season. And he advises the people to do the same.
“I will accept Diwali greetings only through emails and social media. We need to keep ourselves safe and protect the health of our near and dear ones,” Thackeray said.
Referring to the second wave of the viral outbreak in Europe, the chief minister warned against complacency.
“Corona warriors are working hard to protect us from the pandemic and we shouldn’t burden them,” he said.
“We have to resume schools and colleges after Diwali.
We have to follow the protocol of wearing masks, washing hands and physical distancing,” he said, urging people to consider the health of senior citizens.
CM Uddhav Thackeray also mentioned how he is taking flak for going slow on the decision of reopening places of worship. He shared how he doesn’t mind taking flak as long as it means the safety of his citizens is ensured.
“I am ready for brickbats if it ensures good health and safety of citizens. How to avoid crowds and ensure physical distancing in places of worship will be worked out and a standard operating procedure will be drafted after Diwali.
“We are so involved in offering prayers and may neglect COVID-19 safety protocols. What if a coronavirus positive person infects senior citizens from our families who visit the places of worship,” he said.
On the occasion of Diwali, he also shared his take on using firecrackers. “I don’t want to enforce a ban. Let us have faith and trust in each other,” he said.
He said Delhi is seeing a surge in coronavirus cases, adding itis said pollution was the cause. “Let us have self control and restrain from bursting firecrackers which will lead to pollution. Let us not waste nine months’ of hard work against the pandemic during four days of Diwali celebrations,” he added.
