Highlights From Virat Kohli’s First Game As India’s Full-time Captain In ODIs

The match saw India chase down a mammoth target of 351 in a remarkable fashion.

Virat Kohli will be a happy man after the first One-Day International against England at Pune. The match saw India chase down a mammoth target of 351 in a remarkable fashion, and it won’t be unfair to term their fight as one of the best run chases the game has seen in recent times.

In case, you missed the run-fest, we bring you the highlights.

England Batsmen Fire Big

England made a fiery start to their campaign, with Jason Roy hitting some terrific shots en route his 61-ball 73. Joe Root and Ben Stokes too made valuable contributions, that helped England post an intimidating 350.

India Lose Early Wickets

India didn’t start the chase the way they would have liked. Dhawan fell after scoring a solitary run, and KL Rahul lost his wicket soon after. Expectations were big from Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni, but both players had a bad day with the bat. With Dhoni’s dismissal, India were reeling at 63 for 4.

Kohli-Jadhav Lead Recovery

In what was one of the best ODI partnerships in recent times, Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav hit some scintillating shots to form a 200-run partnership. Not only that, they did it at a quick pace of 8.16 runs per over.

Kohli’s Dismissal

Just when the game was slipping away from England, Ben Stokes took the pivotal wicket of Virat Kohli to give his team a glimmer of hope. Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya did hang around for a bit, but Jadhav was dismissed with India still needing 60 runs to win.

Hardik Pandya Finishes The Game

Hardik Pandya played the role of a finisher with grace as he scored a 37-ball 40 to take India past the target. It was a cool and composed innings under pressure, as his failure to form a partnership with either Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin would have allowed England back into the game. He sustained the pressure, and was standing tall till Ashwin hit the winning runs.
