Kusha Kapila to Carry Minati: Content Creators Who Have Made It To Bollywood

Today, some content creators have a wider global reach than many top-tier actors

While there are many concerns around social media, one good thing about being in the digital age is that it is more democratic. Ten years ago, it would have been impossible to think of a regular person bagging a role in a big-budget film with no ties to the industry. But today, things have changed with some content creators having a wider global reach than many top-tier actors. Thanks to the platforms provided by Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, among others, those with a true knack for the screen have the opportunity to create their own content, without waiting for ‘the big break.’ Just take a look at the number of influencers who’re making it to the silver screen.

Prajakta Koli

Prajakta Koli — and our this month’s digital cover star — started her journey on YouTube. The young content creator has a viewership in millions and it was only a matter of time before she joined tinsel town. Her first big break came in the form of an OTT release on Netflix titled Mismatched. But this year, Koli also had her Bollywood debut in the film Jug Jug Jeeyo where she starred alongside the likes of David Dhawan, Anil Kapoor and Kiara Advani.

Kusha Kapila

Kusha Kapila is a natural when it comes to being on the screen and her sketches are ample proof of her mettle. The influencer already made her debut with Karan Johar’s Ghost Stories. But now, she will be seen in Masaba Masaba Season 2, alongside fashion designer and actor, Masaba Gupta.

Dolly Singh

Singh started her journey with fashion and has often addressed important social issues such as, bullying, our obsession with fairness and has tried to create awareness around the Indian society’s inherently patriarchal culture in a light hearted manner so that it can reach and appeal to a larger number of people. It was likely then for her to make her on-screen debut with an equally vocal compatriot, Swara Bhasker, with whom she starred in Bhaag Beanie Bhaag as her best friend.

Carry Minati

Ajey Nagar aka Carry Minati made his Bollywood debut in Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 this year. Even though he played himself in the movie, it was fun to see him in a different light. Later, Minati said that he has always admired Amitabh Bachchan and Devgn and getting to work with them was a dream come true.
