THE DELHI Photo Festival brings photography, the real democratic art form, into the public space,
creating awareness, appreciation and the learning of photographic arts. With total submissions exceeding 1200 entries, 44 print exhibitions have been shortlisted, including the works of Raghu Rai, Kishore Parekh, Regina Anzenberger, Jean Depara, Karthik Subramanian and Sophal Neak. The third edition of the festival will be held at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) from 30th October to 8th November. Here’s a small selection of the work that will be shown.
KAROLIN KLUEPPEL: The indigenous Khasi of Meghalaya are a matrilineal society. The line of succession passes through the youngest daughter. This guarantees girls and women in Meghalaya a unique economic and social independence.
DEBASHIS CHAKRABARTY: In Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, gamers express their love and fascination for games and gaming characters
DIEGO SANCHEZ IBARRA : In this series, the photographer get us closer to the fear of war, of being behind bars, of the economy making us lose everything, of substituting education for bombings, of our identity throwing us to the limbo of pariahs.
KLAUS PICHLER : Dressing up is a way of creating an alter ego, a second skin in which one’s behaviour can be adjusted to and which causes a person to be perceived differently. ‘Just the two of us’ deals with both costumes and the people behind them.
SOHAM GUPTA : Angst is the photographer’s reaction to the trial through which weaklings must pass in our society.
