The Padmavati trailer dropped today, and we have to say it has left speechless. The visual beauty of the film is top notch, as is the case in most Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films. Deepika Padukone is subtle but charged with emotion as Padmavati, Ranveer Singh is incredible as the sinister Alauddin Khilji while Shahid Kapoor too brings in his A-Game with his portrayal of Rawal Ratan Singh.

Ranveer who is our cover star this month, revealed that he went to great lengths to imbibe the soul of Alauddin Khilji in him. “I like making other people happy, and spreading good vibes. I feel like spreading kindness makes me happy, because it multiplies and comes back my way. When I come out of the vanity van in Khilji’s garb after two hours of make-up, I’m not that person any more. So to let go of that feeling that people might think I’m a complete prick, to let go of the fear of being judged for the man I am playing, took some getting used to. I think once I was in character, I was carrying a very different energy that wasn’t my vibe. I wasn’t giving off a very amicable, approachable vibe at all. I couldn’t care less to make someone smile or make their day — I was Alauddin Khilji,” he said.

The film has come under a lot of controversy, and director Bhansali was even attacked during the making of the film by members of the Karni Sena. Surely, he hasn’t let his art suffer because of these factors.

The trailer begins with a haunting background score, that is pleasant when Deepika and Shahid are in the frame. The score turns extremely angry when Ranveer comes in. He looks like a wild man hungry for power, and always ready for a fight. Just like Alauddin Khilji was.

One complaint that we have from the trailer is that we don’t get to hear Ranveer speak. Probably, it’s a ploy as hearing his Khilji voice for the first time when we see the movie, will astonish us more and make the film an even more enjoyable experience.

The war scenes too look extremely well done, something that would not be out of place in a Game Of Thrones epsiode (don’t kill us for saying this.) Yes, visually these scenes look even better than they did in Baahubali.

We can’t wait for the film to release or the songs that’ll be soon launched. 17th November, please come sooner.
