With the talks of Shaktimaan going to the silver screen, another news which will get 90s kids excited is that sci-fi hero Captain Vyom- The Sky Warrior will return to the screens again. Played by Milind Soman, the indigenous space hero is likely to get a modern-day avatar after almost twenty years. The original series that aired on Doordarshan back then was a work of filmmaker Ketan Mehta.

According to the sources, the production house Brewing Thoughts Private Limited (BTPL) which is also producing the new Shaktimaan trilogy has acquired the rights for the remake from Cosmos Maya. The rights include creating a web series or a five-part feature film.

Filmmaker Mehta has confirmed the news and has said that for him, Captain Vyom is for a global audience. He added that it’s the right opportunity to showcase what India is now in the field of science. He believes that the VFX and CGI talent of India will get the right platform through this to show the world, what we are capable of.

This series is billed to be along the lines of Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars. If the sources are to be believed then the makers already have offers from OTT platforms and top studios from the country who want to be co-producers in this project. In fact, the project has also caught the attention of a few young A-list stars who want to play the lead role. The makers have reached out to popular and top-rated filmmakers who have a credible track record of handling such projects which the audiences have appreciated.

Prashant Singh who is the founder and director of BTPL says that he has his fingers crossed because this is a big challenge. But also the time is right to do something like this. Also, to bring back these cult shows from the 90s is a great feeling in itself.

For the uninitiated, Captain Vyom aired in 1998-1999. It had a total of 54 episodes and along with Soman, actors like Kartika Rane, Aarav Chowdhary, Dino Morea, Rahul Bose, Achint Kaur and Madhu Sapre were seen in key roles. In 2008, Soman had said that he would be happy to be a part of the show if it gets created again. A comic book too later was published not only in English but in other Indian languages as well.
