The iconic, the legendary, the original Queen of Pop, Madonna, is directing her own biopic.

This may sound obvious to many (duh) but it is rare that the pop star who has had a five-decade-long career involving countless musical reinventions would be directing the film about her rise from the slums of New York City to mega-stardom. Usually, while icons are peripherally involved in the creative process of their adapted stories, they don’t go out and actually direct them.

But that’s just who Madonna is.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

The script for the film will be co-written with the Oscar-winning Diablo Cody.
