Here Are 5 New Panerai Chronographs For Watch Connoisseurs This Festive Season
The new watches draw upon the brand’s nearly eight decades-long experience in making chronographs
Italian watch brand Panerai first began working on chronographs in 1943 when it developed the Mare Nostrum prototype for deck officers of the Italian Navy. The watch is still preserved in the Panerai museum in Florence. The brand’s mastery over the chronographs has since extended into the 21st century, with the introduction of a series of efficient, high-performance new proprietary calibres developed by the research and development department at its Neuchâtel facility. The five new Luminor chronographs launched this year are a testimony to that expertise.
- Luminor Chrono Monoplusante GMT Blu Notte
A single-button column-wheel chronograph combines the start/ stop/reset functions in a single pushpiece. This watch is also equipped with a GMT function, allowing the home time and local time to be displayed simultaneously. Comes in a 44mm black sandblasted ceramic case, with a midnight blue dial with satiné soleil decoration and classic sandwich structure. Equipped with a deep blue calfskin strap with ecru stitching and an additional rubber strap in the same deep blue hue. Limited to 200 pieces.
- Luminor Chrono Luna Rossa
An extension of the Luminor line dedicated to measuring precision performance, this chronograph celebrates the passion and talent of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, the famous Italian yacht racing team that participates in the America’s Cup. The watch stands apart from traditional chronographs for its placement of the start, stop and reset pushers on the left to accommodate the model’s iconic design that features the crown protecting bridge on the right. It comes with a 44 mm steel brushed case, polished bezel, a deep blue sandwich dial with sporty graphics, and a tachymeter scale on the flange designed to extend its use on land. The red and white details, which are the Luna Rossa colours, enrich the dial. The self-winding P.9200 Calibre has a 42-hour power reserve. Comes with two straps made from technical fabric and rubber in a box encased in a sailcloth signed by Panerai and Luna Rossa. Limited to 1000 pieces.
- Luminor Chrono
All three watches in this collection feature sandwich dials but are distinguished by the chronograph controls placed on the left and the blue hands in the sub-dial devoted to the chronograph function. A `base 1000’ tachymeter scale on the prominent flange calculates average speed over a predefined distance, in kilometres or miles. All three watches are equipped with 44 mm steel cases. PAM01109 comes with a matt finished black dial, PAM01218 with matt finished white dial, and PAM01110 with a blue dial with satiné soleil finishing. The new high-performance, self-winding, Caliber P.9200 movement has a 42-hour power reserve. PAM01109 and PAM01218 models feature two straps, alligator leather and rubber, equipped with a trapezoidal pin buckle in brushed steel. PAM01110, designed to be slim, light and ergonomic, is characterized by the folding clasp with slimmer blades and `OP’ logo.
