The MTV VMAs wrapped up a few hours ago. With Doja Cat as a host, it proved to be the awards were just what we needed this weekend. However, many celebrities were missing from the red carpet. Despite multiple nominations, one of them was Ariana Grande.

Grande had been nominated in three different categories; Artist of the Year, Best Pop Song (for Positions), and Best Choreography (for 34+35). None of these nominations turned to trophies for the singer.

However, she chose to skip the event altogether, the reason unconfirmed.

Grande has been keeping quiet on social media as well since her wedding to Dalton Gomez in May earlier this year, at which less than 20 people were in attendance.

It does not seem far-fetched that someone who rose to fame as a teen star may want to enjoy this time to themselves and privately.

Moreover, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic can also be a cause for the absence.

Earlier, Lorde explained in her newsletter that she had to cancel her performance as what she had in mind would not translate to the stage with the precautions for the infection in place.

Grande’s absence at the MTV VMA Music Awards now makes one wonder whether she would be in attendance at the upcoming Met Gala.

When it comes to her other projects, Grande admitted that she currently isn’t as focused on creating new music but on “new versions of storytelling.” Allure mentioned that Grande is “working with an acting coach who trains leading ladies.”

Ariana Grande also has in the works her own line of beauty products under the name r.e.m. beauty.

Other celebs who were notably missing from the red carpet at the VMAs despite being nominated were Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, who has not been seen at the awards since 2015, among others.
