How Karan Johar Went On To Become More Than Just A Man Behind The Camera
Happy 50th birthday, K-Jo!
Karan Johar, the man who made the audience search for their own Raj(s) and Simran(s), has turned a year old today. The filmmaker has been the brainchild behind so many successful hits and given us new perspectives on romantic films in Bollywood. People don’t mind watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for the thousandth time even after so many years, and also enjoy watching his newer films like the recent hit Shershaah.
The filmmaker has the recipe for victory and he knows how to make use of it for his films. Well, mostly. Just like any other great director-producer, Johar has seen many ups and downs in his career. After all, films like Kalank, Dhadak, and Student of the Year 2 do exist (voted anonymously by the audience and not us), but he has taken the criticism with a pinch of salt. He is unapologetically himself and doesn’t hold back from making more films. Even the ‘N-word’ never feared the celeb, and the result of the same would be Bedhadak starring Shanaya Kapoor with Lakshya Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada.
Well, hit or flop, Johar has his finger on the pulse of cinema. However, he’s never stopped evolving as well. He’s no longer just a filmmaker but someone who has grabbed every opportunity that came his way. Be it running a business or becoming a talk show host, Johar has been juggling every role like a pro, only making everyone respect him more.
Today, to celebrate his 50th birthday, let’s take a look at all the hats that Karan Johar has been wearing apart from being a prolific filmmaker.
Johar has expanded his business by going digital. A sister company of his production house, Dharma Productions is now backing some great projects on OTT. ‘Dharmatic’ is responsible for projects Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Ajeeb Dastaans, The Fame Game and more. Apart from this, he also has a talent agency named Dharma Cornerstone Agency, a recently launched restaurant called Neuma, and a jewellery business that goes by the name Tyaani Jewellery.
An Amazing Judge
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Dil Hai Hindustani, Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan, India’s Next Superstars are the many shows that have had Johar on the judging panel. Television clearly loves him and having a judge like him only promises some good criticism and even better entertainment.
Who doesn’t love to see the filmmaker vlog his life? Thanks to his kids, Roohi and Yash, and the pandemic, it gave birth to Vlogger. Johar started documenting little things about his kids and the time he spent with them. It then moved on to him working on sets and talking to his actors. The parties that he threw also became the muse for his vlog content and people thoroughly enjoyed Johar saying ‘Tooddles’ every time. Now, the only wait is for him to debut as a YouTuber as well.
A Fashion Icon
Think bold, blingy, sometimes outlandish and bright, and you have just got a description of Johar’s wardrobe. He serves looks and fans are here to take note of it. His outfits are different, loud and trendy, and he knows how to carry it perfectly. People take note of what he wears and how he wears it and take inspiration from him to just go DARING! He is a true-blue fashion influencer.
A Talk Show Host
Admit it or not, but the gossip that we get from Koffee With Karan is exclusive and juicy. He has been successfully running the talk show for several years and is returning for the seventh season soon. The drama, the controversies, and the big revelations, only Johar can do it and he can do it only because he is such a great talk show host.
Here’s wishing the enigmatic, Karan Johar a very happy 50th birthday.
