With a limited number of releases in theatres in the past few years, the focus shifted towards OTT platforms and we had enough reason to not be disappointed. Not only did the OTTs provide us with some fresh new talents but it also initiated a comeback game of some of the popular actors from the 90s. Apart from the strong and engaging storylines, the Bollywood queens of the ’90s served us some unconventional roles.

Actors like Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tandon, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapuri, and others are taking up meatier roles and carving a new space for them. Whether it’s Aranyak for Raveena or Aarya for Sushmita or The Fame Game for Madhuri Dixit, the audience is happy to see their favourite actors killing it. Here are the successful actresses with a remarkable comeback on the OTT platforms:

Esha Deol – Rudra: The Edge of Darkness

Disney+ Hotstar is set to welcome ’90s star Esha Deol back on screen. The actress will make her digital debut with the crime thriller Rudra: The Edge of Darkness. The actress will be seen in an all-new avatar and will be paired opposite Ajay Devgn, who plays the top cop Rudra. Deol’s character will be helping Rudra uncover the psyche of criminals in this thriller. Rudra: The Edge of Darkness is set to hit screens on March 4th, and will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Madhuri Dixit – The Fame Game

Madhuri Dixit made her OTT debut with Netflix’s The Fame Game. The series explores the life of Anamika Anand (Dixit), an actress and a superstar, who vanishes under mysterious circumstances. An investigation follows and it will unveil several truths and lies.

Raveena Tandon – Aranyak

Raveena Tandon portrayed the role of a cop Kasturi Dogra who is on a mission to revive a forgotten myth about a serial killer operating in the dense forest. The actress was has mostly rom-coms and drama to her credit impressed fans with her portrayal of a cop. Stuck between professional and familial duties, Tandon plays the balancing act between being a mother and a cop who doesn’t want to lose out on the opportunity when a murder case falls on her lap.

Sushmita Sen – Aarya

Playing the role of Aarya Sareen, actor Sushmita Sen marked her comeback and digital debut with the International Emmy-nominated action thriller Aarya. The series saw her play the role of a fierce lioness fighting the odds to save her family from the clutches of her husband’s murderers.

Lara Dutta – Hundred

Charting her comeback with the comedy series, Hundred, Lara Dutta played the role of a female cop who is racing against time. She sets out to solve crimes with a new undercover agent while taking the viewer on a hilarious emotional roller coaster. She was later seen in Kaun Banegi Shikharwati and Hiccups and Hookups as well.

Padmini Kolhapure – Dil Bekaraar

Veteran actor Padmini Kolhapure marked her digital debut with Dil Bekarar. The show set in ’80s India saw the actress take the audience on a nostalgic journey with her character, Bhudevi. She played a middle-aged gossip-loving socialite who loves paan, ping-pong, and is forever suspicious of her husband.

Poonam Dhillon – Dil Bekaraar

Also marking her digital debut alongside Raj Babbar and Padmini Kolhapure in Dil Bekaraar was Poonam Dhillon. Playing the role of Mamta, she essayed her usual grace on the screen to the fullest. As a mother of 5 who dreams of seeing all her children settle down in life, she played her role in the most convincing manner.

Pooja Bhatt – Bombay Begums

Pooja Bhatt, an actress who was loved by all, thrilled fans when she returned with Bombay Begums. She had the difficult task of playing a complex character who was caught up in the responsibilities towards her family and as the CEO of a bank. The series was women-centric that introduced several female characters who were relatable.

Kajol – Tribhanga

Kajol featured in Tribhanga, playing the role of an unconventional mother trying hard to be better than before. Although the movie did not do well, Kajol’s performance garnered appreciation.
