Christopher Nolan is returning to the premise of WW2, but this time, he’ll be making a movie on the life of scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, who is known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb.” Oppenheimer will have Cillian Murphy portraying the role of the scientist, and joining him will be Robert Downey Jr, Rami Malek, Matt Damon and some other big names.

Here’s what we know about the movie so far:

Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography

Christopher Nolan

Like with all of Nolan’s movies, details of his 12th film have also been kept under wraps. What we do know is that it’ll be based on Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

As the name suggests, the biopic will follow the journey of J Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the creation of the atomic bomb. Both Bird and Sherwin are credited as writers, with Nolan also writing the screenplay.

An absolutely stellar cast

Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr are only some of the names on the call sheet. The movie will also star Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, and Rami Malek. Recently, Dane DeHaan was too added to the roster.

Emily Blunt will play Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, the physicist’s wife, a biologist, botanist and member of the Communist Party of America. Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr and Matt Damon will portray Lewis Strauss and
Lt Gen Leslie Groves, respectively. Strauss was the chairman of the US Atomic Energy Commission during WW2 and Grooves was the director of the Manhattan Project.

Expected to be a slow burner

This will be Nolan’s first biography. We will get to see the journey of a young Oppenheimer, from his university days at Harvard and Cambridge, and will follow his life as he becomes a leader in the field of theoretical physics and creating the atom bomb. As we said, be prepared for a slow burner.
