Every now and then, Bollywood has a knack of producing movies that leave you with a nostalgic aftertaste; reminiscing your carefree days at school, bunking classes and all the friends that you made on this journey. Here’s an ode to the top five such films.
Taare Zameen Par
Darsheel Safary’s depiction of a daydreaming, dyslexic young student and his heart-warming relationship with his unconventional teacher played by Aamir Khan make for a stirring emotional ride. With several lump-in-throat moments, this Amole Gupte movie ranks right up among the best.
Student of the Year
In contrast to Taare Zameen Par, this Karan Johar romance comes straight out of the Dharma kitchen. The High School Musical-like film has rich kids driving Ferraris to school, girls donning miniskirts, teenage dating and all that. Our favourite part, though, still remains Alia Bhatt.
Stanley Ka Dabba
Set in a primary school, another Amole Gupte movie on this list is a walk down memory lane. But instead of being a goody-goody school tale, this one will rather bring back to life the bittersweet reality of the days where camaraderie and the joy of sharing reined supreme.
Nil Battey Sannata
With a delightful cast, comprising Swara Bhaskar and Ratna Pathak, Nil Battey Sannata is a funny and dramatic take on the importance of education. Not only does it send out a message, but it also takes us on the journey of a mother who rediscovers her own love for school in an effort to get her daughter educated.
This Nagesh Kukunoor coming-of-age story is a cult addition to any such list. The movie chronicles around the forming of new bonds at boarding school and never fails to give you friendship goals. Even today, KK’s famous track ‘Yaaron’ from this movie never fails to bring back a flood of memories from school days.
