The list of awardees for the 66th National Film Awards is out and Sriram Raghavan’s crime thriller Andhadhun has won the honour of Best Hindi Film. The 2018 film stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte and revolves around the life and mistrials of a blind pianist (portrayed by Khurrana) and a Lady Macbeth-esque figure who is portrayed by Tabu.

The film was enormously successful, both with the critics and the audience and the actors won numerous plaudits for their role. Not only did the film cross the Rs 100-crore mark in India, but it also performed fantastically in China.

“I always knew they’d (Andhadhun) do well, but I never expected that they’ll do this well. I had a certain number with both the films, and frankly speaking, the numbers were doubled, but I always thought that they will be commercially successful films. I’m glad that people are making good content and that they are creating blockbusters out of these films. I’ve seen that happen with Vicky Donor and Dum Laga Ke Haisha — they are successful films, but they’re not blockbusters. I’m happy and quite overwhelmed by the situation,” Khurrana had told MW this year.

The film is rated 8.4 out of 10 on IMDb and has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Best Actor award will be shared between Khurrana for Andhadhun and Vicky Kaushal for Uri. Arijit Singh won the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for Binte Dil while Sanjay Leela Bhansali won Best Music Direction for Padmaavat. Bindu won the Best Female Playback Singer (Female) award for Mayavi Manave.

The Best Director award went to Adhitya Dhar for Uri while Keerthy Suresh takes home the Best Actress award for Mahanati.
