Welcome to show business
Typically, celebrity award shows are about getting through a long, boring evening which ends in a great buffet, probably. And only if you’re lucky. There is no escaping acceptances speeches, thank you speeches and speeches that have nothing to do with the night, even. If there’s anything that will get you through the night, other than the gift bags, it’s when people and the things they do get your attention. We’re talking about red carpets, fashion, the winners, the press con and everything in between.
Of course, the above mentioned aspects have always been attached to the entire ceremony. However, gems like the Emmy Awards 2017 have aced it in every department like a proper pro. Here are the highlights of the night that we think made it worth the show.
The first Asian man winning an Emmy
Our boy, Riz Ahmed of HBO’s The Night Of fame made history by becoming the first Asian man to win an Emmy in the acting capacity. So naturally, us brown people are popping bottles of champagne and throwing confetti around the room because it is the natural thing to do.

Priyanka Chopra, the goddess in white
Making her second year debut at the awards ceremony, Priyanka looked like every brown woman’s dream brown woman, in terms of beauty, intelligence and just being a good sport. At least, that’s the general consensus. So, there’s always that.
Double win for Donald Glover
Donald Glover usually makes headlines for his music under the name of Childish Gambino. But the this around, it’s become a global celebration on his two-Emmy win. Why? Oh nothing, just that he’s the first black director to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and the first person of colour to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Stranger Things, Better Suits
The fashion verdict is that the boys of Netflix’s Stranger Things were dressed better than any adult in that damn room.
