Parasite was the big winner at the 2020 Academy Awards. In addition to taking home Best Picture, Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece took home trophies for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.

Parasite made history is the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars. It is also the first film from a South Korean director to win the Best Picture, and the first with a primarily Asian cast. Parasite beat out Joker, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Little Women, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Jojo Rabbit in the process.

“I’m so happy to be its first recipient under the new name,” Bong said about the renamed category, previously titled best foreign-language film. “I applaud and support the new direction that this change symbolizes. All our loving crew members and cast members are here with us. Please send a round of applause to the actors and crew members of ‘Parasite.’”

“I also thank everyone who allowed me to actualize my vision,” he continued. “Yeah, I’m ready to drink tonight … until next morning.”
