After working in front of the camera, Swara Bhasker now plans to take her skills behind it with her new production house.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Swara Bhasker is turning producer for a new film that will be released under ‘Kaahniwaaley’, the production house started by her and he entrepreneur brother, Ishan Bhasker.
Bhasker aims to support and help good scripts make it to the big screen and to provide a large scale platform for filmmakers with powerful stories. “The idea of Kahaaniwaaley has been in the works since the last year and a half. At Kahaaniwaaley, the aim is to support good scripts and filmmakers that have these fresh and powerful stories but they don’t get the right platform to showcase them,” she was reported saying in a statement.
Ishan Bhasker shared how an old painting in their family home inspired them to go out on this venture and have the core idea of telling unique stories. “There was a very popular Amrita Sher Gil painting the Ancient Story-Teller at our house in Delhi which served as an inspiration for Swara and me. The core idea of the painting is to tell stories which are compelling, fresh, raw and very different from the rest.”
“Both Swara and I share a driven desire to make striking stories. Hence, when the opportunity came to set up Kahaaniwaaley, it fit our vision perfectly,” he added.
Swara Bhasker is now a part of a small yet ambitious group of female producers in Bollywood who also share her vision of creating and portraying fresh and unique stories on the big screen. Priyanka Chopra produced film, ‘Pahuna‘ won big at the Schlingel Children’s Film Festival in 2018 while Zoya Akhtar’s Tiger Baby productions ‘latest release ‘Gully Boy’ is also an unconventional film for the Indian masses that showcases the culture of rap in the streets of Mumbai.
