What happens when you are a poor king, holding onto a useless gaddi, in a kingdom with no water? Comedy and confusion ensues. Starring Saurabh Shukla, Gulshan Grover, Kunal Kapoor (yes, he has come back from his hibernation) and the effervescent Radhika Apte, Kaun Kitne Paani mein, is a mad comedy which raises the right questions.
A village in Rajasthan, which has the usual scarcity of water is the basic concern of the film. Shukla plays the King of the village who finds it hard to earn money and also keep up with his kingly ways. He tries selling the village to local and foreign investors, but to no avail. His son (Kapoor) lands up to find some solution and, according to the film, that is a conspiracy gone wrong. One of the startling snippets from the trailer is when Shukla asks the bearer to get Kapoor a peg of whisky and Kapoor asks for water. The bearer is confused. Shukla asks him to bring last night’s bottle of soda. it must have gone flat by now.
Kaun Kitne Paani Mein releases later this year.
