US President Donald Trump has been impeached for the second time and made history for being the first president to be impeached twice.
On January 13, a majority of the United States House of Representatives (including 10 Republicans) voted to impeach Trump, citing “incitement of insurrection” following the pro-Trump Capitol riots that happened on January 6. Back in December 2019, the POTUS was impeached by the House for “abuse of power and obstruction of Congress” but was eventually acquitted by the Senate.
In order to remove the president from the office, two-thirds of the Senate will have to vote in favour of convicting him. If the Senate votes to convict Trump after a trial even after he leaves office, he will lose benefits such as $200,000 annual pension, annual $1million in travel reimbursements and extra funding for his staff.

Apart from impeachment, Trump has been banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook in the wake of a violent mob storming the US Capitol. Following the footsteps on both, other social media platforms have also banned or restricted harmful speech to stop extremist Trump supporters from planning further riots or spreading misinformation about voter fraud.
Apart from these two social media platforms, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, Google, YouTube, Apple, TikTok, Shopify, Reddit have also banned the 46th President on its platforms in some or the other way.
In other news, Trump has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2021 for his role in a deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, news reports have stated. He was nominated by Norwegian parliamentarian Christian Tybring-Gjedde, to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. In a statement to Reuters, Gjedde said it was for Trump’s contribution for peace between Israel and the UAE. “It is a unique deal,” he added. Israel and the UAE struck a deal on August 13 to normalise their relations and announced that they were establishing full diplomatic relations. It’s considered to be a rather historic deal towards peace in the middle eastern nations, which also was announced by Trump.
