Trump’s microblogging app is called ‘Truth Social’ and it will launch on February 21st, 2022.

Donald Trump might be back on social media again. And no, not on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The former US president will be launching his version of a microblogging app on 21 February 2022, and it will be called ‘Truth Social’.

Based on the screenshots seen, the ‘Truth Social’ shares an uncanny resemblance to Twitter. Needless to say, it’ll have a sharper focus on what Trump describes as “real news,” with its retweet functionality being called “re-truth.”

The app describes itself as “America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.” We’ll let you be the judge of that.

The app will be made by the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), a $4.3bn valued group, headed by former US Representative Devin Nunes. It recently also raised an additional $1bn from private investors

So, what does Trump plan to do with all this money? The microblogging app is supposedly only part of phase 1 of what he has in store for us. Reports suggest the second phase would involve a subscription-based, video-on-demand service called TMTG+. It’ll launch in collaboration with a video sharing site Rumble. According to an investor presentation, the third phase may expand onto a podcast and news network.

The news comes roughly a year after the former president was permanently banned by Twitter, after the January 6th insurrection on the US Capitol. Shortly after, Trump was also banned from Facebook and Instagram, for “a severe violation of the company’s rules.”

Currently, the Truth Social app is in its beta stage, with selected “invite-only” guests. In case you are curious or just missed Trump’s rambling on Twitter, the app is available for pre-order on iOS.
