It seems like its been years since Extraction released on Netlfix but the popular movie premiered on the OTT platform in April this year. Soon after its release, Joe Russo’s Extraction became Netflix’s most-watched original movie ever and naturally, a sequel was also given the green light. Russo is known best for directing the third and fourth Avengers movies alongside his brother, Anthony.
“I thought I’d be starstruck, and ask him questions about Avengers and Thanos, but nothing like that happened because he is so cool and calm. This vibe he has is great — it feels like you’re meeting a friend and not a co-actor,” actor Priyanshu Painyuli who stars in the film, told MW about co-star Chris Hemsworth.
While the film’s storyline itself was criticised for being weak, the action sequences, as well as Hemsworth and Painyuli’s performances, were praised.
Now, Joe Russo has given us an update about Extraction 2. During a virtual appearance at the Brazilian Comic-Con, the producer said that they intend to start filming around the fall of 2021. “Chris is a busy guy so we have to figure out his schedule, but that’s the intent at the moment,” he said.
“I’m still not gonna commit because I think it’s more exciting to surprise people, but I will say this: we are working at building out a universe of films that could potentially explore some of the other characters from the first movie and some new characters, and see more historical interaction between the characters. So if you’re interested in David Harbour’s character, you just may get to see him in a future Extraction movie,” Russo also told Collider, teasing a universe expansion for the film.
Extraction was directed by Sam Hargrave and featured Indian actors Pankaj Tripathi, Priyanshu Painyulli, Randeep Hooda and Rudhraksh Jaiswal. Hemsworth, the lead character in the film, went on to win the People’s Choice Award for The Action Movie Star of 2020.
