Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday went all out as far as promoting Liger was concerned. While the hype gave rise to high expectations, the movie was a real bummer at the box office.
Deverakonda reportedly charged Rs. 25 crores for his part, and the cameo by Mike Tyson was another raging discussion among fans. The movie’s status at the BO aside, there’s also no denying that Deverakonda continues to be a much-talked-about star. But, were you aware that the charming actor took a great deal of time before he tasted success with Arjun Reddy? Turns out, he hasn’t always been lucky!
Here’s a list of VD movies that flopped at the BO:
Apart from Arjun Reddy, another movie of his, titled Dwaraka, was also released in 2017. Alongside Deverakonda, the movie starred Pooja Jhaveri and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. Dwaraka failed at the domestic and international box offices.
Ye Mantram Vesave
In 2018, VD did a Telugu romantic film titled Ye Mantram Vesave, which marked Shivani’s debut. While the movie was initially slated to release in 2013, it got released only in 2018 due to various unlisted reasons. The movie couldn’t do well at all at the box office and was termed as another flop of his.
As the name suggests, this movie was a political thriller. The actor marked his Tamil debut with this one, where he essays the role of a minister’s son who goes on to become the chief minister. The movie earned approximately Rs 25 crores and was considered a box office failure.
Here again, the actor was seen in a romantic-action film that was released in 2019. Rashmika Mandanna and Shruti Ramachandran starred alongside the actor in the movie. Originally made in Telugu, the movie was eventually released in Tamil and Malayalam as well. However, it only earned Rs 35 crores at the box office.
World Famous Lover
The movie made headlines for all the wrong reasons. While the BO numbers weren’t impressive at all, the makers allegedly asked the actor to return a portion of his fee. The plot traces the journey of Gautam, a young man on a quest to find his love back.
