HBO Max, the streaming service that offers all the HBO content including originals, sitcoms, web shows, and movies, is likely to enter the Indian market soon. While the exact information about how and when the streaming platform will be launched in the country are yet to be revealed, some details about HBO Max’s Indian market launch plan have surfaced online.
Reports published by OnlyTech suggest that the streaming service will be available in three different tiers. The starting package will be priced at Rs. 69 per month, to be able to compete against the likes of Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and Netflix that are already popular in the country.
HBO Max did confirm that it carried out a survey amongst a group of users conducted by market research firm Nepa, but it does not confirm their final plans. A spokesperson told Gadgets 360, “We routinely conduct market research with consumers in countries around the world that test a wide range of possible offers and price points for our services. Those being reported that suggest a future launch of HBO Max in India are amongst many being tested and evaluated and do not reflect any current plans.”
Coming back to the three different tiers the streaming platform will be catering to, OnlyTech reported that Rs. 69 per month plan will be called ‘Ad supported,’. The user will be able to watch content only in standard definition (SD) resolution with up to two simultaneous streams available across mobile, tablet, and other devices. One will also be able to watch movies one year after their theatrical or digital release. Shows would be available after their season completes.
The second plan will be called ‘Mobile.’ It would be available at Rs. 139 a month which would include ad-free. The HBO Max Mobile plan users would be able to access movies within six to eight months after their theatrical or digital release. Shows would be available two to three weeks after their global release. They will have different other plans like these for the users to choose from including a ‘Standard’ plan at Rs. 329 a month.
Currently, HBO Max is only available in the US and certain US territories. Selected countries in Latin America and the Caribbean also have access to it.
