British actor Daniel Craig has become the highest-paid actor in the world after signing his latest deal with Netflix.
Variety has released a report mentioning the paycheques many popular Hollywood actors have got last year. Towering above all is Daniel Craig with his $100 million (₹743 crore) deal with Netflix, making him a part of two more Knives Out movies.
According to Variety, the amount “can be attributed to the fact that Netflix compensates movie stars for the projected back-end box office participation they would reap if their movies were released exclusively in theatres.”
Recently, Netflix won the rights for two sequels and a readymade franchise in a $469 million deal. A condition for the deal to go through was a certainty that Craig would be the one to reprise his role and another condition that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie.
The millions he is raking in from the deal make him the highest-paid actor, overtaking Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who brought in 30 million dollars for Red One.
Will Smith for King Richard and Denzel Washington for The Little Things, both earned 40 million dollars each tying them for the third spot on the list, with Leonardo DiCaprio following next on the list after pocketing 30 million for Don’t Look Up on Netflix.
Others on the list include Jennifer Lawrence, who is the highest-paid female actor, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and Tom Cruise and others.
Recently, Craig made headlines for a different reason. He may have made a fortune but none of it is going to be passed down to his four children. He thinks inheritance is “distasteful,” and told the magazine Candis “My philosophy is ‘get rid of it or give it away before you go.’”
His current net worth is estimated at around 138 million euros.
