Back in 2018, journalist Jason Fagone put together an incredible larger-than-life story for Huffpost, which now shares its title and tale with Bryan Cranston’s next film.
Jerry & Marge Go Large tells the true story of retiree Jerry Selbee (Bryan Cranston) and his loving wife, Marge Selbee (Annette Bening). While building a career in materials analysis for Kellogg’s cereal company, Jerry discovers his innate talent at deciphering complex patterns. It was something that helped him design and execute the cereal’s packaging, but it also let him notice certain similarities between lottery tickets.
Soon, Jerry discovers a mathematical key to the Massachusetts lottery, and the pair end up winning millions of dollars, deciding to use the fortune to revive their tiny town, using their clever scheme for social good.
The film stars The Office’s Rainn Wilson, Larry Wilmore, Anna Camp, and Michael McKean, and will be directed by David Frankel, known for his work on Marley & Me and The Devil Wears Prada.
With four Oscar nominations under her belt, it’ll be particularly exciting to see Annette Bening on screen again, after great performances in American Beauty, The Grifters, The Kids Are All Right, and 20th Century Women. Bening was last seen in Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile.
As for Bryan Cranston, the film marks a return to his comedy roots. It’s amusing to note that this relatively lighthearted, feel-good story coincides with recent announcements confirming the actor’s return to the Breaking Bad universe with a cameo in Better Call Saul.
With a storeroom full of Emmys for his work as Walter White, to see Cranston play a ‘nice guy’ after a while will come as a breath of fresh air. Rainn Wilson also chimed in with a Twitter post earlier today, giving us a clue as to what his character will be like and it seems like he’s also roped in serious interest for the film:
