After what seems like years, superstar Rajinikanth has finally announced that he is entering politics. “I am ready to sacrifice my life for the Tamil people,” he declared passionately, reports NDTV.

The 70-year-old Rajinikanth will announce his political party on New Year’s Eve and launch it in January, five months before the Tamil Nadu Elections.

“Wonderful and amazing things will happen!” Rajinikanth said but did not specify whether he would contest in the upcoming elections.

The actor is a living legend with his films making ridiculous amounts of money at the box office. He has stated that he would ensure that he will bring “honest, transparent, corruption-free, caste-less, secular and spiritual politics” in Tamil Nadu.

Popularly known as Thalaiva (leader), Rajinikanth enjoys a cult-like status in India and especially in the Southern states. His fans are known to shower milk on his posters and get haircuts that resemble those of his latest characters in the movies.

Rajinikanth was a bus conductor in Bengaluru before he made his debut in films in 1973.
