Rajkummar Rao, who was last seen in Roohi, has swiftly shifted his focus on the next project. The actor will be seen sharing screen space with Bhumi Pednekar in Badhaai Do. While many are assuming the film is a sequel to Ayushmann Khurrana’s film Badhaai Ho, Rao spills the bean on the project and reveals what the film will look like.
Rao told a media portal, “It’s actually not a sequel, we’re taking the (Badhaai Ho, 2018) franchise forward. It’s a beautiful story and one of the most amazing teams I’ve worked with. I can’t wait for everyone to watch our beautiful film.”
He went on to talk about stardom and fame in Bollywood and said, “Stars, I don’t know… but I know for a fact that our superstars will always be there. They’ve been here for so many decades and with the love and adulation they’ve seen, I don’t think our generation will ever experience that. I love them, too,” he continues, “But, the way our cinema has seen this gradual shift, for me, the script is the real star. I’m just happy with the fact that we’re investing a lot of time in writing.” He added, “Our audience decides who they want to call a star or not.”
The sequel of sorts will be directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni and will be produced by Junglee Pictures. The first installment of the popular feature film focused on the life of a middle-aged couple (Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta in splendid performances) and Gupta’s unexpected pregnancy. The film also featured Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. Veteran actress Surekha Sikri played Gajraj Rao’s mother in the movie.
In Badhaai Do, Rajkummar Rao will reportedly play the role of a cop, while Bhumi Pednekar will be seen playing the role of a PT teacher. The team began shooting for the film in January 2021.
