Rockstar Games is back with the one of the most highly anticipated games of 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2. The game acts as a prequel to the original Red Dead released in 2010 and includes all that horse riding, cowboy gun slinging and bank robbing of the wild wild west that you’d expect from a game like this.

Taking you all the way back to 1899, the plot of the game revolves around Dutch van der Linde and his outlaw gang, who are on the run after a botched heist. You have an open world to explore that is Rockstar’s best design yet. Apart from doing the main story missions, the map is also full of side quests and little things you can do, like fishing, brewing coffee, playing poker or even challenging someone to a duel. You can also choose to just get on your horse and ride around and explore the mighty and extremely detailed open world which has snow-capped mountains, dry deserts, thick forests, cotton plantations, murky alligator infested swamps, open plateaus, hidden caves, etc.

Rockstar Games has always been known for their attention to detail, but they’ve taken it to another level with this one. From blood smearing on your shirt after carrying a body over your shoulder, to the testicles of your horse shrinking when you travel in the cold, they really aimed at reaching perfection.

The game has been making players and critics only give perfect scores, with some even naming it the best game of this decade. Have a look at some below:

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era
 – IGN

An incredible Western that will deliver months of open-world adventure
– CNET

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it’s also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it’s a world that is hard to leave when it’s done
– Gamespot

Rockstar delivers the game of the generation
– Hollywood Reporter

I feel that the main reason the game did so well, is because it was a breath of fresh air among all the other ones that have been flooding the market recently. The fact that the game allows you to dive in to the 1890’s and not only give you a perfect depiction of what it was like back then, but allow let you experience it, is what it sets it apart from anything else you’ll play this year. You don’t need a time machine to go back to the past anymore, you just need to pick up a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.
