World-renowned filmmaker, Satyajit Ray’s son, Sandip Ray has announced that he will be bringing two of the maestro’s most iconic characters, Feluda and Professor Shanku in one film.

According to media reports, the two parts of the film will hit the screens next year on the occasion of Ray’s 100th birth anniversary.

“There will be two different stories, which I am yet to decide. Keeping in mind the total duration of the film, I will choose from immensely popular short stories,” Ray told PTI.

Sandip Ray had brought Professor Shanku to the big screen for the first time in Professor Shanku O El Dorado and had also directed many films starring the immensely popular Satyajit Ray creation, Feluda.

“Till date, I have made Feluda and Shanku as different contents. But, bringing them together in a single film will be challenging. I hope it will remain etched in the memories of the audience for a long time,” he added.

“Apart from film-making baba became a successful writer in Bengali. His short stories, especially the Feluda series of detective novellas, became instant bestsellers. His sci-fi stories too were very popular. He did not read out bedtime stories to me when I was a child, but he read a lot himself. It would be difficult to pinpoint any particular detective character that he admired, but yes, Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie’s Poirot were his all-time favourites although he did read pulp,” Sandip Ray had told MW earlier.

“Perhaps because I was the only child he wanted me to follow in his footsteps. He, therefore, involved me in all aspects of film-making. Surprisingly when I made my own film he did not interfere till I showed him the first cut. He was a man who wanted to do everything; he even operated the camera! After his heart attack, he was asked to slow down. He had to. The camera operating is strenuous. So he left that to me,” he had added.
