Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly to work with filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani for a social comedy film.
The project also seems to be backed by SRK’s banner Red Chillies Entertainment.
For the unversed, Hirani, a filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, distributor, and editor, has directed an entirety of five films in his career. Four out of the five were produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), 3 Idiots (2009) and PK (2014) are the commercial successes the two worked together on.
However, for his fifth, Sanju (2018) he separated from the long-time friend and mentor to produce the film himself.
Now according to the reports, they are continuing to not work together.
It should be noted that Khan and Chopra also seem to have some history.
Back in his salad days, Khan had felt insulted when kept waiting outside of Chopra’s office for hours. Although the rumours have never been confirmed, they are that the former had vowed never to work with the latter.
However, Chopra seems to have a different story to tell. Back in 2012, during a conversation with the press, while celebrating his thirty years in the industry with a film festival, he said, “Shah Rukh was offered 3 Idiots, Ferrari Ki Sawari, Munnabhai and other films. He is our first guy – we go to him first and if he says no, then we move on.”
He had also assured that collaboration with SRK will happen soon and it is mere co-incident that the two have not collaborated yet.
If speculations are correct, the unnamed project is to hit the floors soon, sometime in September, although the pre-production work has already begun. It is being described as an amusing comedy set against the backdrop of immigration. Taapsee Pannu is also expected to star in the film.
Shah Rukh Khan is making his way back in front of the camera with Pathan headed by Siddharth Anand. He recently celebrated 25 years in the industry.
