The YRF dacoit-drama will also star Vaani Kapoor and set to be released on July 22
Ranbir Kapoor has made fans wait for quite some time, who will be seeing him back on the big screen. And with two big releases slated under his name, it might even be worth their while. First, there was the Brahmastra trailer, which created enough uproar to be turned into meme material. And now, YRF has released a teaser for Shamshera, too.
In it, Kapoor is seen sporting a grungy look, riding horses and fighting baddies. The teaser also offered a glimpse into Sanjay Dutt’s character, upon whom the 2018-biopic, Sanju was based. Ironically, Kapoor essayed that role, before going cold for some time.
Actor Vaani Kapoor — who is starring alongside Kapoor in the film — couldn’t be spotted in the teaser, which made fans even more curious about her character. Understandably, Twitter was flooded with reactions almost instantly and netizens can’t stop raving about Kapoor’s never-seen-before avatar. Here’s what they are saying:
According to reports, Kapoor will be playing a double role in the film. “The film revolves around a dacoit tribe that is fighting for its rights and independence from the British Raj. Apart from playing the protagonist, Ranbir might also be seen as the central character’s father. He has been shooting for both roles simultaneously. This is the first time in his 12-year-long career so far that Ranbir will play a double role,” a source had earlier told Filmfare.
In this dacoit drama, Dutt will play the antagonist. “Shamshera is a ferocious and fearless character in the film. Therefore his nemesis, the villain had to be even more fierce and monumental in every aspect. Who better than Sanjay Sir to give us that impact on screen?” Karan Malhotra, the director of the film, had earlier said in a statement. YRF described Shamshera as a desi high-octane masala film, which is set to release on July 22.
