Immensely popular Punjabi singer and Congress leader, Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Jawaharke village in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29th. The 28-year-old had just joined the Congress in December 2021 ahead of the Assembly elections, and was shot two days after Punjab Police withdrew the security cover of 424 persons including the singer. 

Punjab Police filed a preliminary investigation moments after his death. The report indicated an inter-gang rivalry. Canada-based gangster, Goldy Brar and his close aide, Lawrence Bishnoi, reportedly claimed accountability for the murder of the singer in a Facebook post. The news has left everyone disturbed. 

The moment the news broke of Sidhu Moosewala’s death, condolence messages started pouring in from both, fans and celebrities. Drake took to his Instagram Story to pay his respect to the Punjabi musician. He posted a picture of Moosewala with his mother and wrote, “RIP Moose” with a bird emoji.

Several Punjabi actors and singers also expressed their condolences on social media. Diljit Dosanjh, Sargun Mehta, Ammy Virk, and Neeru Bajwa and others remembered the young singer. 

Several Bollywood celebs took to social media to mourn Moosewala’s demise. Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Bhumi Pednekar and Sara Ali Khan are among to the first few stars who expressed their shock. “RIP. Your words and music will live on. Can’t believe this,” Dhawan wrote on hia Instagram Story. Ali Khan also took to Instagram Story and posted a picture of the 28-year-old singer.

Lilly Singh composed a touching tribute to Moosewala and said, “Absolutely devastating and upsetting news. To my global audience that may not be familiar, today a young legend in the Punjabi music industry was killed. 

If you see tribute images of him today, please don’t keep scrolling, but rather take a moment to stream the music of Sidhu Moosewala. It has often been featured in my content and has always resulted in people asking me, ‘what song is that?’ Through his revolutionary music, he will live on.”

The police stated that nearly 30 rounds were fired at Sidhu Moosewala. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh has announced that a ‘peace march’ from the hospital to Gurudwara Sahib will be organised as a tribute to the singer.
