As we unveil looks from the Met, it’s safe to say our home-grown celebutante’s took centre-stage at the deep-blue carpeted floors of the met. Their ensembles showcased a unique blend of deep historical sensibilities of Dandyism, showcasing defiant self-expression while defying conventions with trendy flair, turning heads and time itself.  

A list of A-list celebrities struck the carpet for the very first time cementing their name in history’s fashion blockbuster moments. Catch a breakdown of all the Indian show-stoppers and their outfit details.

 

Shah Rukh Khan- Our very own King Khan, highlighted by his coruscating ‘K’ pendant and bespoke layered chains, made his applause-worthy debut in a custom Sabyasachi Mukherjee label. His all-black pant suit reflects ‘Black Dandyism’ at its finest while fusing Mughal subtlety denoted by his ‘Kamarbandh’, floor length Blazer embellished with a shimmering brooch and an 18 K gold-plated Bengal Tiger Head Cane.

Kiara Advani- The diva made headlines flaunting her baby bump in a breath-taking Gaurav Gupta gown titled- ‘Bravehearts.’ The off-the-shoulder gown perfectly projected the inner workings of a woman. In classic Guarav Gupta style, the dress was contrasted with a lustrous gold breastplate that embodied a mother’s heart linked to her baby’s soul, tied together with ghungroos and gems, tracing the umbilical kinship shared between the two. The apparel is a manifestation of a ‘transformative phase’ in her life that echoes the spirit of ‘Black Dandysim.’ Moreover, the silhouette was elevated with a majestic cape that brought with it  the memory of the late André Leon Talley who was known for his bold mastery of fabrics. She kept it neutral with her makeup, adding just the right amount of dramatism to her smokey eye look while opting for the perfect ear cuff and dangle earrings to tie in the look.

Diljit Dosanjh- After commanding global eyeballs for taking Punjabi Music to international audiences, he has once again amplified the power of Indian dynamism but, this time through a fashion forward lens. He was noticed serving an exquisite getup, curated by designer Prabal Gurung. The popstar sported an off-white ‘Achkan’ and pyjamas paired with an ankle grazing cape which was embroidered with the map of Punjab and rich philosophical Punjabi motifs- ‘Mool Mantra.’ By embracing his cultural identity through sartorial standards, Diljit showcased his unfettered love and pride for his roots and background. To add to his Maharaja appeal, he crowned himself with a sacred turban which was layered with chains by Golechas and carried a jewel-encrusted Kirpan, symbolising authentic Punjabi royalty. He stunned audiences with an opulent diamond neck-piece, seen as a tribute to the ‘Patiala’ necklace by Cartier. The world-wide sensation carried a sense of nationalism as he left crowds yearning for more.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas- Turned heads as she was photographed hand-in-hand with her husband Nick Jonas. Donning a polka-dotted custom Balmain suit dress, the retro tailored outfit seamlessly complimented the 18th century sartorial ethos with a contemporary touch. The glamour was taken up a notch with her bold choice of accessories, the wide-brimmed black hat paired with black gloves served as an addition to her vintage attire. But, what heightened the glitz was her statement Bvlgary jewellery featuring the Magnus Emerald Necklace boasting a 241.06-carat emerald.

Sabyasachi- With more than 25 years of experience in the design sphere, Sabyasachi has been cemented as India’s top-most fashion icons. Marked as his second Met Gala appearance, Sabyasachi kept things minimal yet chic. Pairing an evergreen crisp white shirt with a trench coat and a over-coat, with high-waisted black trousers and dress shoes to compliment the garments. Sabyasachi chose statement jewellery to complete his outfit with a bold choker and a beautiful headgear encrusted with a feather brooch pin.

Isha Ambani- The business mogul was styled in custom Anamika Khanna couture. With an immaculate cape jacket paired with a striking geometric corset that paid tribute to African textiles and classic black tailored pants studded with crystals, her outfit perfectly aligned with the fashion statements of Black Dandyism heightened by a feminine touch. Her garment was intricately ornamented with precious stones and pearls sourced straight from her family’s collection which required needlework of over 15,000 hours. To cinch the look together she opted for dewy makeup and a long braid that added to her gleaming persona.

Mona Patel- The Indian-American entrepreneur, philanthropist and fashionista was once again captured for her innovative outfit choices. This time she was seen in custom Thom Browne ensemble, polished in a black -on-black classy pant suit with a white halter shirt that added sophistication of the Dandy essence. To accessorize she chose a black beaded bodice that beamed with elegance added to the versatility of the fabrics. Along with this, the tech trailblazer incorporated out-of-the-box elements like a kinetic spine showcased on her back from Lisa jiang and a robotic dog inspired by Thom Browne’s Hector bag, harnessed by a diamond leash. Mona tipped her hat to traditional tailoring while embracing digital revolution of the modern world.

Manish Malhotra- One of India’s leading designers, with an extravagant clientele, Manish delivered a staggering outfit. He opted for a Black over-coat with gold detailing which he wore over a staple white shirt with bishop sleeves. His choice of accessories neatly balanced the look with a bold black tie that sparkled with precious stones added panache, his carefully curated choice of an elephant brooch pin radiated Indian pride. His selection of black combat boots added diversity while keeping things fashionable.

Natasha Poonawalla- A consistent attendee, she is often seen fostering unconventional and ground-breaking looks. This year she didn’t hold back and strutted the blue carpet in crowd favourite Manish Malhotra. Natasha was wrapped in an imperial purple fish-tail skirt which was constructed with two heritage Parsi Gara Saris and a cape jacket that was meticulously embroidered in traditional Parsi style. To augment the luxuriance, she wore a pearl roped bralette and French laced ‘Kummarband’. The theatrics of the attire was amplified by a lace cravat, decorated with falling pearls created by Atelier Biser. It symbolised a blossoming lotus and highlighted the elegance of her neckline.
