How To Pull Off A Pinstripe Suit In 3 Easy Ways

A staple all men should own

Pinstripe suits have been a part of a banker’s wardrobe since time immemorial. Stockbroker DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street wearing the classic pinstripe in navy blue is proof of that too. The bank suit has a long history of its origin and how it gained mass appeal, the earliest seen on Cary Grant and Clark Gable in Gone With the Wind. Sir Winston Churchill too was a prominent figure opting for the wide lapel pinstripe – not to forget the infamous cowboy hat and cigar. The classic staple has seen elites opt for it more often than others.

However, a lot has changed in terms of the wearer of the suit and the suit itself. Today pinstripe suits come in a range of colors and the fit is moderately relaxed. Why most men still settle for solids instead of the classic pinstripe is understandable since the task of pairing it up can be daunting. There isn’t a go-to rulebook for getting it right either. On the brighter side of things, pinstripes give the wearer a leaner appeal and few extra illusional inches too. Tricky as it might be, this staple is the slickest option when dressing for a work party, attending a wedding or heading out to an event. Are your sartorial instincts making you want to try out the trend but you’re unsure how? Here are ways to pull it off will still being your dapper self.

If you’re looking to dive into the trend the conventional way, opt for a three-piece navy blue suit with black dress shoes or a double-breasted suit with a white shirt and a tie to with it. You can always switch up the style quotient by dressing up or down. Avoid any over the top accessories and let the suit speak for itself. Finish off the look with tan brown loafers for the classic understated appeal.

Pinstripes are also great for an event that allows you to dress up the easy-going way. Just add in a pocket square, loosen up a few buttons and you’re good to go. You can also take a style cue from the very handsome Jason Statham. The turtleneck strikes the right balance between casual and formal while still staying classy.

We wouldn’t be crazy when we say this – denim shirts underneath a pinstripe suit work great too. As a matter of fact, it reduces a few years to your age in contrast with the otherwise classic stripes giving you a mature feel. Pair up the look with sunglasses and sneakers of choice and there you have it, a look perfect for a laid-back evening or even a brunch out with colleagues.
