Tom Daley took the internet by the storm when he was spotted knitting at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The British diver was captured on camera by a photographer on location working tirelessly on a new stitching task that has since been making the rounds online. Daley revealed about his Instagram account dedicated to knitting, titled “Made with love by Tom Daley,” where he posts his creations — including doggie jumpers — that he sells to raise money for charity. At Olympics, he was making a sweater for Instagram-famous French Bulldog Izzy the Frenchie.
Daley revealed on Instagram that knitting has become his way of “finding calm, mindfulness and [it] relieves stress. One thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting and crochet and all things stitching,” Daley said in a video this week.
We went through Daley’s knitting account and spotted some of the innovative creations by the diver. From sweaters to crochet planter covers, the athlete has been hard at what he’s doing.
Take a look at some of the best designs below.
KNITWEAR MEDAL CASE
The diver made medal pouches of knitwear to store Gold medals won by the British.
MALIBU SWEATER
Bringing in the ’70s vibe, he made a sweater out of crochet work that brings out the baggy and cropped effect.
KNITWEAR DRESS
Daley made a replica of a Gucci knit dress for his best friend. The athlete wrote, “I made this dress for my bestie @xsophielee and if you swipe to the left you’ll see what my original aim was to make…it was a Gucci £1,750 dress.”
CROCHET TRUNKS
Apart from common knitwear pieces such as sweaters and scarves, Daley went ahead to curate crochet trunks for himself. He posed shirtless in his self-made crochet trunks, leaving all of us stunned.
KNIT SCARF
The athlete started off his new stitch practice by knitting a gorgeous mauve scarf. He gifted it to his mum for her birthday.
