Dryness, tightness, flakiness, beard irritation, redness—cold air and indoor heating pull moisture from your skin. Most men unknowingly make it worse with long hot showers, harsh cleansers, and skipping moisturiser or SPF. Here’s what you skin requires you to do differently during winters
Skip Foaming Cleansers
Foaming cleansers strip natural oils, something winter skin desperately needs. Switch to cream or gel cleansers which are gentle and hydrating while being equally effective at cleansing.
Avoid Long Hot Showers
Hot water weakens your moisture barrier and causes dryness, irritation, and redness.Shower with lukewarm water and use cold water to wash your face. Also, avoid long hot-water showers.
Avoid Over or Harsh Exfoliation
Winter skin is already dry and sensitive and therefore, exfoliation is anyway tricky during this season. Over exfoliation can lead to irritation and dryness and not exfoliating leads to dullness. Switch to milder ingredients like lactic acid, mandelic acid, or PHA and keep it to once a day.
Switch To Extra Hydration
Winter air strips away moisture and therefore, you require to hydrate more or hydrate properly. Either moisturise twice a day or use moisture sandwich to create a thick layer of moisturiser and seal it to trap the moisture. Switch to rich, creamy textures.
Do Not Forget Neck
Your neck shows winter dryness early and is often ignored. Apply all facial skincare down to the collarbones, especially anti-ageing products and moisturiser.
Moisturise the Body Daily
Body skin loses hydration fast in winter. Ceramide lotions, urea-based creams (5–10%), glycerin body butters are often recommended. You can also switch to body oils during winters to combat dryness.
Exfoliate The Lips
Lips don’t produce oil so they dry out first. Beeswax, shea butter, lanolin, ceramides are good to hydrate lips. There are gentle lip exfoliators also that can be used to remove dead skin cells.
Care for the Beard & the Skin Beneath
Winter beard dandruff is real and preventable. Use gentle beard wash, lightweight beard oil and moisturiser massaged into the skin underneath.
