The coolest men on 'gram have dropped their new selfies making a strong case for full face, bushy and caveman beard. We are talking about Zayn Malik, Ranveer Singh and Vijay Deverkonda while Vicky Kaushal did it recently for his movie Chhaava. And though it looks smashing on these men and serves as an inspiration for you to try, the season we are currently in doesn't make it easier to manage it. The rain, humidity, and heat don’t just mess with your hair, they mess with your beard and the skin underneath. Think: itchiness, sweat, trapped dirt, breakouts, and the dreaded beard dandruff. If you’re rocking a full beard this season, here’s everything you need to know to keep it clean, healthy, and actually manageable, even when the weather is anything but that.
Step 1: Wash Your Beard (Like, Properly)
Sweat, dust, and grime from the air, your beard is probably trapping everything. And with all the moisture in the monsoon, it becomes a playground for bacteria and fungus. Swap your regular face wash for a proper beard shampoo. Use it 2–3 times a week. Look for ingredients like tea tree oil, activated charcoal, or apple cider vinegar—things that gently clean without drying your skin out. Massage it in like you would do to clean your scalp. Rinse well and pat dry. Don’t use a hairdryer on high heat, your beard will frizz up like a bad 90s perm.
Step 2: Don’t Skip the Conditioner
Humidity messes with the texture of your beard hair, making it rough, dry, and frizzy. A good beard conditioner or leave-in balm softens the hair, hydrates the skin underneath, and makes you look (and feel) a lot less like a stressed-out. Look for lightweight formulas with shea butter, argan oil, or aloe vera.
Step 3: Exfoliate the Skin Underneath
The skin under your beard still needs attention. Dead skin cells and sweat cause itchiness, acne, and those pesky flakes. Use a gentle scrub or a soft-bristled beard brush once a week. However, don't go overboard with it, don't use harsh scrubs and don't rub it too hard.
Step 4: Beard Oil, but Make It Monsoon-Smart
Beard oil is great but not much in humidity. For this weather, switch to light, non-greasy oils like jojoba, grapeseed, or hempseed oil. They hydrate without clogging your pores or making your face feel like a frying pan. Use it after showering, when your beard is slightly damp. Just 2–3 drops. Rub between your palms and massage it in.
Step 5: Trim It Regularly
Growing caveman beard doesn’t mean letting it go wild and untamed. Humidity and sweat can make long beard hairs tangle, stick together, or trap bacteria. Keep your neckline clean, the cheeks tidy, and snip off split ends with beard scissors.
Step 6: Beat the Beard Funk
Nobody talks about this, but a damp beard can smell. If you’ve been out in the rain or wearing a helmet or mask for hours, you'd know beard odour is real. You can try using a mist for a quick fix, make sure to dry it out when it gets wet and keep an anti-bacterial spray handy.
