A new fragrance for men joins Calvin Klein’s bestselling line-up of EDTs
For more than half a century, Calvin Klein has been one of the hottest names in high fashion, with the much-vaunted CK tag appearing on some of the coolest apparel, watches and perfumes on the planet. The company’s founder, Calvin Richard Klein, is a globally acknowledged authority in all things fashionable and continues to drive cutting-edge product development at CK.
Premium fragrances are a mainstay at CK and the US-based luxury brand has a long list of bestsellers – blockbuster hits every one of them – to its credit. Who, after all, hasn’t heard of names like CK One, Obsession, Eternity and Euphoria – fragrances for men and women that are so dearly loved by chic, savvy consumers the world over. And now, CK fans have something new to look forward to; Defy, a new EDT for men has recently been added to the line-up and looks to have the makings of as big a hit as CK perfumes that came before it.
Created by master perfumers Anne Flipo and Pascal Gaurin, Defy is a fresh, invigorating fragrance with alluring top notes of Bergamot, Mandarin and Cedar leaf oils setting the stage, followed by complementing heart notes of Lavender Absolute, Sage Clary oil and Violet leaf. Base notes are made up of Vetiver oil (a star ingredient that’s specially sourced from Haiti), Amber and Musk, which provide a rich, vibrant earthiness to the fragrance, lending it a unique cadence that CK fans will hugely appreciate.
Defy comes in a unique bottle that was designed by Swedish designer Malin Ericson, who’s earlier worked on award-winning packaging for leading luxury perfume brands. For CK Defy, Malin has designed an individualistic bottle with rounded edges at opposite ends, with a cap that features a matt texture that’s inspired by CK’s blue denim jeans. The carton also features the same shade of blue, with CK branding in striking silver. The end result is packaging that looks sophisticated, in a way that’s classily understated.
For the ad campaign for Defy, Calvin Klein roped in award-winning Scottish actor Richard Madden, who stars in Marvel Studio’s much-anticipated 2021 film, Eternals. The stills and video featuring Madden portray the star in a defiant mood, as a man who’s willing to risk taking a leap of faith. The visuals are a symbolic metaphor for Defy’s ‘journey of defiance’ positioning.
Defy EDT is priced at Rs 4,750 for a 100ml bottle and Rs 3,650 for a 50ml bottle, while the Defy deo is priced at Rs 1,450 for a 150ml bottle. The fragrance is now available at Sephora, Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle and Central stores. Defy can also be bought online via Nykaa, Myntra, Tata CliQ Luxury, Flipkart and Amazon.
