Most guys like to keep their grooming routine as low-maintenance as possible. A quick face wash, a dab of moisturiser, and sunscreen (if that) and out the door. But according to dermatologists, there are a few ingredients that are crucial for skin and hair care. Whether you're dealing with dry skin, early signs of ageing, or just want to look a little fresher, the right ingredient in your grooming products could make a huge difference. We asked the experts what it is that one ingredient and why it deserves a spot in your daily lineup

Must-Use Ingredient: Ceramides
Here's Why: Moisturisers containing Ceramides are crucial. Men often neglect this aspect besides sunscreen. Ceramides are necessary to restore the skin while maintaining the skin’s natural barrier. They help to hydrate the skin by limiting moisture loss and also shield against environmental aggressors.

Must-Use Ingredient: Hyaluronic acid and Ceramides
Here's Why: Usually, men have oilier skin which makes them feel they don't need to moisturise their skin. However, it's absolutely important. It helps prevent sensitivity of the skin, pigmentation and lock in the moisturise.

Must-Use Ingredient: Zinc oxide/ Titanium dioxide containing sunscreens
Here's Why: It’s been scientifically proven that men’s complexions tend to be thicker, have larger pores, and produce more sebum. Men also sweat about twice as much as women, and their sweat contains more lactic acid, which raises the pH balance. As men tend to be outdoors for long hours, the most important skincare ingredient every man should have in his routine is zinc oxide/titanium dioxide containing sunscreens. Daily use of these ingredients is important to reduce sun damage, and prevent signs of early ageing. Thy also protect the skin from skin cancer, which has been shown to affect more men than women. Mineral based, broad spectrum sunscreens, with an SPF of at least 30 are recommended, as they cause lesser irritation, and are relatively non greasy in texture.

Must-Use Ingredient: Panthenol and Ceramides
Here's Why: One simple key ingredient or a simple step which men should follow is apply a thick layer of mositursing or ceramide repair cream on the beard area for half an hour before shaving to soften the hair follicle and allow smoother shaving without bumps or acne. After that, they should apply a repair balm or panthenol-based soothing cream rather than alcohol based toners.

Must-Use Ingredient/ Product: SPF
Here's Why: Most of my male clients don't use sunscreen or don't use it regularly. Most of them work outdoors which makes their skin completely unprotected from UV damage which result in tanning, uneven skin tone, premature ageing and photo damage. It's not a cosmetic product but protective in nature and so, has to be used regularly.
