2022 seems to be the year of the box office. After two years of the pandemic, cinema is back with a bang, and a host of big-budget projects, some of which have had fans on tenterhooks for long. Interestingly, this is also the year that will see a bunch of sequels to series, shows and movies, and here are the ones we’re waiting eagerly for.
Popular Mumbai-based fashion designer Masaba Gupta forayed into acting in 2020 with a Netflix series, Masaba Masaba, where she plays herself. Gupta is seen alongside Neena Gupta, Nayan Shukla, and blogger, Rytasha Rathore. The series is a tongue-in-cheek take on the daily vagaries of a single ambitious woman working in Mumbai. It has been directed and written by Sonam Nair and the sequel is scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.
The Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives, Season 1 offered fans a sneak peek into the lives of Bollywood celebrity wives. The series, starring Neelam Kothari, Seema Khan, Maheep Kaur and Bhavana Panday, is a guilty watch packed with drama and gossip.
The popular Netflix series Indian Matchmaking streamed in 2020, and now, after its huge success, it is coming back with another season in August 2022. While Sima Taparia, chief matchmaker in the series, managed to keep us entertained and is expected to lead the new season, we’re excited to see both old and new faces from this iteration.
Delhi Crime made headlines in 2020 when it brought the award for Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmys. With Shefali Shah essaying the role of lead character, DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, the series offered a fictionalised representation of the 2012’s Delhi gang rape and murder case that shook the nation. Now in the second season, the team will be taking up a new case and we’re keenly waiting for more details.
This 2020 series based on phishing rackets kept the audience at the edge of their seats throughout its episodes. The show spans the lives of a group of young boys from Jamtara, Jharkhand, who drop out of school and manage to successfully earn money through cyber crimes.
Based on the book When Dimple Met Rishi, written by Sandhya Menon, this 2020 movie follows the story of two youngsters who are not meant to be together. With Prajakta Koli and Rohit Saraf in the cast again, season 2 will stream on Netflix this year. The second season would tackle Koli’s response, after she loses her app and Saraf trying to navigate his love life.
With Reema Kagti as the new director, the second season of Made in Heaven will be back on screens again this year and stream on Amazon Prime Video. While the first season featured Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur as wedding planners with unassumingly dark personal stories in India, the second season is apparently going to explore international terrains.
With Jitendra Kumar as Abhishek Tripathi aka Sachiv Ji, this rural comedy returned with a season 2 this year. Actors like Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta and Chandan Roy make up its cast, and is based in the village Phulera. The second season is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Written by Imitiaz Ali and Divya Johry, She is a crime drama series with Aditi Pohankar in the lead, who tries to rediscover her sexuality. Pohankar sees a different side of the world when is asked to work undercover with the Anti-Narcotics Group. The second season is already streaming on Netflix.
