Originality is dead. Long live the sequel. In a cinematic era where nostalgia makes more money than innovation, the industry has gone full sequel mode. And not just any sequels — we’re talking blockbusters, cult favourites and franchises that once swore they were over. Whether they’re reviving fashion’s coldest editor or rehashing prehistoric chaos, these are the movies Hollywood is betting you’ll line up for. Some are greenlit, others are in limbo, and a few are just wishful thinking with studio money behind them. But all of them are coming — eventually.
The Most-Anticipated Movie Sequels Coming to a Screen Near You: The Devil Wears Prada 2, Hera Pheri 3 And More
1. The Devil Wears Prada 2
Miranda Priestly takes on digital irrelevance in stilettos
Meryl Streep is reportedly reprising her role as the cold-blooded editor from hell. This time, she’s fighting to stay relevant in a media landscape run by influencers and doomscrolling. Emily Blunt’s back, now with a power desk of her own. Hathaway’s return is TBD, but the real question is — has fashion evolved beyond Miranda’s reach?
2. Jurassic World: Rebirth
Dinosaurs. Corporate greed. Secret island labs. What could go wrong?
Zora Bennett leads a team of operatives into the most dangerous vacation destination since Fire Festival — a remote island facility linked to the original Jurassic Park. They’re after dino DNA to save lives, but naturally stumble upon something the world should never see. Coming July 2025, because apparently we’re not done milking this franchise.
3. Aladdin 2
Still waiting for a sequel more fabulous than Jafar’s eyeliner
Disney’s live-action Aladdin made a billion dollars and a sequel has been in early development since. It won’t follow the animated Return of Jafar story exactly, and there’s a Disney+ spin-off also floating around. Will Smith’s Genie may return, provided there’s no more slapping.
4. Atomic Blonde 2
Charlize is still fighting in heels and neon
The gritty, vodka-fuelled spy thriller might finally get a streaming sequel. Charlize Theron is in, the director’s still interested, but nothing’s on the release calendar yet. The world needs her ice-cold stares now more than ever.
5. Avatar 3, 4 and 5
James Cameron will stop when he’s dead
Avatar 3 is arriving in December 2025 with a new tribe of Na’vi called the Ash People. Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis join the cast. The fourth and fifth films are planned for 2029 and 2031, because Cameron’s not just building movies, he’s building religion.
6. Avengers: Doomsday
Iron Man’s back, just not as Iron Man
After Kang actor Jonathan Majors’ legal implosion, Marvel scrapped The Kang Dynasty and brought in the Russo brothers to retool the film into Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr returns — as Marvel’s classic villain Doctor Doom. Expect multiverse chaos and one very smug fanbase.
7. The Batman 2
More eyeliner, more whispers, more Pattinson
Matt Reeves is back to write and direct the sequel to 2022’s moody noir reboot. Expect at least three Nirvana songs and more rain than monsoon season in Mumbai. Release date: eventually.
8. The Conjuring 4
One last exorcism for the road
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as ghost-whispering power couple Ed and Lorraine Warren. This final chapter drops September 2025. You already know the drill: haunted basement, creepy child drawing, demonic Latin whispers.
9. Constantine 2
Keanu isn’t done with hell just yet
The 2005 cult hit is finally getting a sequel, with Keanu Reeves returning and director Francis Lawrence on board. No release date, but it’s not cancelled, which is saying something in DC’s current chaos.
10. Crazy Rich Asians 2 and 3
Two sequels, one big inheritance fight
Both films will shoot back-to-back in 2025. Jon M. Chu returns to direct, and new writer Amy Wang takes over scripting duties. Still rich, still petty, still fabulous.
11. Dune: Messiah
Religion. Politics. Sand. Repeat.
Denis Villeneuve is planning a third Dune movie based on Frank Herbert’s trippiest novel. Script’s nearly ready. Paul Atreides will get even weirder. Expect existential monologues and Timothée Chalamet still brooding.
12. Enola Holmes 3
Sherlock’s little sister still solving misogyny
Millie Bobby Brown returns as the Victorian-era girlboss detective. With Sherlock now roommates with Watson and Moriarty still on the loose, expect more sleuthing, sabotage and corset defiance.
13. Evil Dead 6
Because demons don’t stay dead
Director Lee Cronin wants another round after Evil Dead Rise, possibly set in the woods again or exploring the aftermath of the last film’s bloody chaos. Nothing’s greenlit yet, but the Book of the Dead’s not closed.
14. The Exorcist
Flanagan might save it
After Exorcist: Believer tanked, Universal hit the panic button. Deceiver is written but on hold. Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan is rumoured to be circling. This one’s cursed, and not just on screen.
15. Fast & Furious 11
Just call it F&F: Family Forever
Vin Diesel will return to whisper about family while driving a car into the stratosphere. No title yet, but expect more physics-defying stunts and (hopefully) more of Jason Momoa’s unhinged villain.
16. Gladiator 3
Yes. Already
Gladiator II landed in November 2024. Director Ridley Scott’s already sketching ideas for part three. This man does not rest.
17. Godzilla x Kong: The Sequel
Monsters. Punching. Loud noises.
Following The New Empire’s box office success, Legendary is working on a follow-up. David Callaham is writing. Adam Wingard might return to direct. Giant lizard plus giant ape equals reliable box office.
18. I Am Legend 2
Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan post-apocalypse bromance
Set decades after the original, this sequel leans on the alternate ending where Neville survives. No director confirmed yet, but it’s in active development.
19. I Know What You Did Last Summer
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr return for one last scream
Do Revenge’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is set to direct. This legacy sequel may or may not involve someone else forgetting what they did last summer.
20. Ice Age 6
Because Disney can’t let Scrat go
Everyone’s back: Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg and even that acorn-obsessed squirrel. No release date yet, but you’ll hear about it when your nephew starts screaming at the trailer.
21. The Incredibles 3
Pixar’s favourite family returns
Director Peter Sohn takes over with Brad Bird still on the script. The Parrs are back, powers intact. JackJack still rules.
22. John Wick 5
Guess he wasn’t really out
Despite the ending of Chapter 4, Lionsgate has confirmed early development for a fifth film. Could tie into spin-offs Ballerina and The Continental. Never bet against Keanu.
23. Jumanji 4
The game’s not over
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black will return. Director Jake Kasdan is on board, but production hasn’t resumed yet post-pandemic pause.
24. Kingsman: The Blue Blood
Eggsy’s trilogy finale
Taron Egerton returns. Matthew Vaughn directs. Production’s been delayed, but the film will reportedly tie up Eggsy’s arc. Suits, gadgets, and at least one bar fight incoming.
25. Knives Out 3
Murder. Mystery. Daniel Craig in another weird accent
Filming is underway. Rian Johnson is back. The tone’s darker this time and might drop around Halloween 2025. Prepare to suspect literally everyone.
26. Hera Pheri 3
Babu Bhaiya, Raju, and Shyam walk into a sequel
After years of false starts, fan heartbreak, and more confusion than Raju’s financial plans, Hera Pheri 3 is finally happening. The original trio — Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal — are back in their iconic roles. The plot is still under wraps, but rumours suggest it picks up after the events of Phir Hera Pheri, with the trio caught in yet another get-rich-quick mess that predictably spirals into complete madness. If all goes well, expect nostalgia, chaos, and Paresh Rawal stealing every single scene with one-liners that’ll immediately become WhatsApp statuses.
